The modern bow was developed by the Tourte brothers around 1800. It differs from the classical bow mainly in the use of metal on the frogs and buttons. As a result, the balance point is different and the bow can be heavier. The stick is stronger, the hair is spread with a metal ferrule and sits in a wider band on the string. These changes produce a strong and consistent sound throughout the entire length of the bow.
The lengths and weights of Tourte bows have now become standard.
I developed my own bow models and always received positive feedback.
The sound of a bow is very important to me. The constant communication with musicians, the choice of materials and the unique construction of each bow remain my greatest challenges today.
